When the young master tile installer Werner Schlüter was laying tiles in a bathroom with 5 doors, he hit on the idea of using Schlüter-SCHIENE: this was the beginning of a successful career as an entrepreneur.
Inventions don’t drop out of the sky; they emerge out of practical experiences.
The really successful ideas are often the result of years of experience, combined with a good deal of creativity.
And they are always a reflection of the time in which they are created.
Today, that young master tile installer’s name stands for an internationally renowned brand and company.

Schlüter-Systems Ltd is the wholly owned UK subsidiary of Schlüter-Systems KG. Our base in the UK is situated at Coalville, Leicestershire, where we provide full sales and technical support for customers in the UK and Ireland.
There are six other subsidiaries around the world, in France, Italy, Spain, Turkey, The United States, and Canada, plus agencies and distribution partners in many other countries.
Here in the UK, Schlüter was founded in 1993, and is now headed up by Managing Director Joachim Backes, with the help of a dedicated senior management team.
The Schlüter team works closely with distributors, stockists and tiling contractors – providing the best customer service available – actively helping to ensure a long lasting, attractive installation.
Schlüter’s renowned technical expertise includes advising architects, specifiers and contractors, before they carry out the installation, preventing tomorrow’s problems.
Without Schlüter, there is always the danger that the installation will fail – that the tiles will crack and become debonded. Indeed, technical advice is often sought where precisely that has happened, because Schlüter-Systems were not installed at the outset.
Problems can always be put right – but of course, prevention is better than a cure.
