Fantoni at Orgatec

Made in Italy

08/11/2016 | FANTONI GROUP

The Fantoni exhibition space at Orgatec asks us to reflect on the new ways of working and on how the workplace is changing.

It seeks to give an answer to this, rooted in design customisation and in the involvement of the user, as the basis of “designing options”, spellbinding scenarios that swing between global and local, while always remaining human-centred.

While real estate and facility management are experiencing profound evolution, thanks in part to technological innovations and the growing awareness of the influence of workspaces on staff motivation, large organizations are adopting new working models, because the space has become a strategic lever, engendering interaction between real estate management offices and HR. Changing spaces to change corporate culture, designing flexible workspaces to increase engagement: intelligent working environments make it possible to reduce the size of premises (currently 60% of available space in companies is not used), modify layouts and diversify in terms of types of space.

Thus, the office is no longer necessarily the place in which all work is to be performed, but rather, it has become the place that stimulates creativity, concentration, interaction with colleagues and with people from other companies.

In this context, in order to activate new working models, physical offices and furniture need to embrace the technological innovations (internet of things) that will enhance communication and collaboration. Integrated sensors that detect whether a workstation is in use, devices to monitor the comfort level of the environment (temperature, light, noise, humidity,…), systems to “communicate” how spaces are used, wireless infrastructure and secure remote access solutions, data and applications available from anywhere, collaboration tools that enable people to work in a team or to hold face-to-face meetings, regardless of their geographical location.

This is the direction taken by “Smart Environment”, the intelligent furniture developed by Fantoni in partnership with eFM: the exclusive design and comfort of Fantoni combined with the technology and innovations of eFM.

The first-born in the “Smart Environment” family is the plug&play intelligent desk, featuring built-in sensors that detect human presence and communicate via the internet or by mobile app, giving the occupation status of the work station (booked and occupied, booked and unoccupied, unbooked and occupied or free).

Smart Environments can also be integrated into Building Management Systems (BMS) and Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS) to include automated switch-on and -off of equipment and to call out maintenance services.

The products at the Fantoni stand are a contribution to the creation of “intelligent” environments, from Hub to Acoustic Room, from Lift-Up tables to cabinets with sound-absorbent micro-perforated doors.

Hub – designed by multiple Compasso d’Oro award winner Matteo Ragni – is a system created to solve all today’s demands for a flexible workplace, offering a series of modules, from shared workstations to the places of concentration and focus needed in our everyday work.
The organization of spaces changes and increases the types of settings available: individual, collaborative, focused, or for relaxation. The Hub module – single, double, multiple, or the high version – is a traditional work table that can also be so much more, adapting to suit organizational dynamics. The partial use of the workstation makes it possible to share desks, with an eye to reducing “individual” spaces in favour of opportunities to collaborate and communicate.

Acoustic Room meets the need for privacy and for smaller meeting spaces: an acoustically protected haven within an open-plan or collective space. This sound-proofed room-within-a-room is available in two different-sized modules built of high-sound-absorbency 4akustik panels, creating islands within high-traffic spaces.

The room is supplied with different levels of customization, from a very simple solution to one with melamine flooring and glass walls.

And to make the work space even smarter, height-adjustable Lift-Up desks can be integrated into the various Fantoni collections, from Framework to Sistema28 to Quaranta5, where the electrical mechanism is completely built into the side of the desk, offering a height range of 50 cm (70-120), and making it possible to work both sitting and standing.

To complete the new person-centred design of the work space, acoustic comfort has become a fundamental element of responsible design.

In Cologne we find curved solutions that highlight the malleable nature of 4akustik panels, with sinuous shapes that break away from traditional rigid geometries, while maintaining all the great acoustic performance of the material.

4akustik is the best-performing wood-based sound absorbent product on the market today, formulated to achieve absolute excellence in terms of both health and safety. 4akustik complies with the “F4 star” standard, certified by the Japanese authorities and considered to be the most exacting in the world, with reference to its extremely low formaldehyde content and consequent environmental protection. Hence this product is extremely eco-friendly, and suitable for use in public spaces where the client seeks high technical performance combined with sustainability, in addition to aesthetic considerations. 4akustik is also the only wood-based sound-absorbent panel to achieve a B-s1,d0 fire rating (CE classification).

On the ceiling, Passepartout, by architect Eri Goshen, is a modular system comprising panels with different sizes and types of drilling or milling.

This system makes organizing the spaces between panels easy and free of any size-related constraints, and ensures suitable positioning and easy access both to the sound-absorbent panels themselves and to the installations, whatever their type and form. The panels are individually suspended using cables, while karabiners make for easy inspection.
